This is a beginning class limited to 4 students and 6 auditors*
  • Students learn:
    • The history and basics of forging
    • Different forges and fuels
    • How to start a forge fire
    • Where to find tools
    • What tools to look for; etc.
  • Students begin forging in the first class
    • learns to "draw out a bar",
    • then bend a bar two ways
    • by making the bar into a spice hook.
  • The student then progresses to
    • making a pair of tongs to hold a bar of steel.
    • With the newly made tongs, the student forges a piece of carbon steel into a cold chisel.
    • Once the chisel is made, the student will learn how to
      • anneal,
      • file,
      • harden and finally
      • temper the chisel.
  • Forge welding, often called fire welding (welding without electricity) is discussed, and time providing, the student will perform a forge weld.
